The Maternity Style Guide: Preparing for Your Session

To ensure you look and feel your absolute best while using the Client Closet, I’ve put together a few tips on how to prepare. The right foundation makes all the difference in achieving that seamless, high-end look.

1. Choosing the Right Colors

When in doubt, think neutral. To ensure your undergarments remain invisible under the gowns and draped fabrics, please bring options in the following colors:

Nude/Skin Tone: This is the most versatile choice and works under almost any fabric.

White: Ideal for our lighter, ethereal lace gowns and silks.

Black: Best for our darker, moody, or "fine art" editorial pieces.

Pro-Tip: If you have your heart set on a specific colored gown from the closet, try to bring a matching set of undergarments for a perfectly cohesive and seamless look.

2. Bra Selection

The silhouette of your dress will determine the best bra style. Since our closet features a variety of necklines, I recommend bringing both:

A Strapless Bra: Essential for off-the-shoulder gowns, tube tops, or sweetheart necklines.

A Standard Strapped Bra: Perfect for our more supportive or sleeved gowns.

Sticky Bras/Nipple Covers: These are excellent for backless dresses or sheer "fabric toss" styling where a traditional bra might show.

3. Smooth Foundations

For form-fitting gowns, consider wearing seamless, no-show panties or maternity shapewear. This prevents visible panty lines (VPL) and allows the fabric of the gown to drape beautifully over your silhouette.

4. Planning for "Fabric Toss" & Angel Wings

If we are doing a custom fabric toss or using the angel wings, we often aim for a more "ethereal" or semi-nude artistic look. In these cases:

Coordinates Matter: A matching bra and panty set (specifically in nude or black) creates a deliberate, polished appearance if the fabric shifts during movement.

Skin Prep: Please avoid tight-fitting clothes (like leggings or tight socks) right before the session to prevent "indentation lines" on your skin.
